ABSTRACT

Natural disasters are events that will occur in an increasing rate during the following years since they are inextricably linked to climate change. They usually leave behind them huge material damages and an important number of injured, too. Consequently, it is as necessary for the nurses as it is for the healthcare personnel and the rest of the paramedical staff to be trained accordingly, so that they will be able to handle situations like these. Specifically, regarding the response stage, it is essential that they will be trained in the dynamic triage procedure in terms of population. It is equally important that they will be prepared for the challenges they may come across in the case they will be asked to apply it while being equipped with minimal available resources. The aim of the following research was the presentation of triage and the elevation of the nurse’s role at the site of the incident.

Key-words: natural disaster, nurse role, response phase, triage
