ABSTRACT
Introduction: The chronic renal failure is a serious and chronic health problem, worldwide, associated with increased morbidity and mortality and which has serious implications for the quality of life of patients, especially those undergoing hemodialysis.
Aim: The highlight of the factors that affect the quality of life of patients undergoing hemodialysis, as well as the importance of measuring it in the context of planning the care of these patients.
Methods: For the writing of this review, a systematic approach was used to search and identify all recently published literature (articles, studies and reviews) related to the quality of life of patients undergoing hemodialysis, through the international scientific databases PubMed, Academia.Edu, ResearchGate as well as the Greek literature.
Results: According to the results of the present review, the nature, severity and duration of the disease and the organic problems arising from it, as well as psychosocial and economic factors, are causes that affect the quality of life of hemodialysis patients.
Conclusions: The measurement and evaluation of the quality of life of patients undergoing hemodialysis, through valid scientific tools, is an important and integral part of therapeutic intervention and should therefore be evaluated at regular intervals in clinical practice.
