ABSTRACT

Introduction: Percutaneous Coronary Intervention is a low-risk invasive treatment for patients with acute myocardial infarction which appears to improve their quality of life.

Purpose: This bibliographic review presents all the available studies published from 2000-2019 in patients with acute myocardial infarction who have undergone Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI).

Conclusions: Improvement in quality of life of patients after PCI was observed at 6 and 12 months follow-up. Assessing patients’ quality of life after PCI is an important step towards a holistic approach. It is recommended health educational programs to be carried out and ongoing assessment of the quality of life of patients who have undergone PCI to be incorporated by the health care staff in their daily practice.

Key words: Myocardial Infarction, Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI), Quality of life
