ABSTRACT
Utilizing demographics is a common practice in scientific research to describe the sample and establish comparisons. The selection of the right elements, their placement in the survey, and the method of obtaining the relevant data all have an important role in the successful implementation of the research. This paper examines the demographic factors most often used in studies and outlines the best methods for collecting pertinent information. Possibilities for alternate methods are proposed to offer more autonomy in selection. Consideration was taken to ensure consistency with the methodology of the Greek Statistical Authority, allowing comparisons to be made with the entire Greek population, as well as creating a national statistical sample. Tabular representations of the national population are also available. Ultimately, recommendations for managing demographic inquiries are provided, as well as a proposition for collecting demographic data, in alignment with bibliographic requirements, which can be adjusted and used by any researcher.
